Addiction Recovery Support Group
Dr. Gerald May believes we all suffer from addiction. He believes the same processes that are responsible for addiction to ideas, work, relationships, power, pornography, food, chemicals, fantasies and an endless variety of other things. We are all addicts in every sense of the word. Moreover, our addictions are our own worst enemies. They enslave us with chains that are of our own making and yet that, paradoxically, are virtually beyond our control. Addiction also makes idolaters of us all, because it forces us to worship these objects of attachment, thereby preventing us from truly, freely loving God and one another.....yet.....out addictions can lead us to a deep appreciation of grace. They can bring us to our knees.
G516 is an addiction recovery support group with the name taken fro Galatians 5:16, which says "So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves." Our group uses the book, 12 Steps to Jesus and differs from other 12 Step programs in that we will not be sharing what our addiction is. We feel all addiction has similar roots and the group will be exploring addiction as a whole. We want everyone to feel safe and comfortable and want no one to feel judged or relationships jeopardized due to sharing their addiction. This group is focused on allowing the work of the Holy Spirit to bring freedom and wholeness to our lives.
